Opened in 1978, this 1,500-acre park and 315- acre lake is managed by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources
drivingDirection Shabbona Lake State Park is easily accessible from the Chicago area via I-88. Take I-88 west to the Sugar Grove exit, which is approximately 2.5 miles west of the Aurora Toll Booth. Take US 30 west from Sugar Grove approximately 22 miles to Shabbona. Visitors from the Northeast or Southeast, take IL 47 to US 30 west to Shabbona. Visitors from the Southwest or Northwest, take I-39 to to US 30 (exit 87). Directional signs are on the exit ramps. Take US 30 east 7 miles to Shabbona. From the DeKalb area, take IL Rt 23 south to US 30, then take US 30 west to Shabbona. Signs in Shabbona will direct you to the park. The park entrance is on Preserve Road, approximately 1/2 mile south of Shabbona. Signs in Shabbona will direct you to the park. importantInformation Camping fees are refundable if cancellation notification is received no later than 3 days prior to arrival. Shelter Reservations are non-refundable unless the area is closed by the Department, in this circumstance the Site Manager will contact you prior to your reservation date to cancel and issue your refund. A responsible adult (18 years of age or older) from the camping party must register for the party and thereby acknowledge compliance with the rules and regulations of the park for the party. Firewood Ban: It is illegal to bring or possess on IDNR properties any firewood from out of state or from a quarantine area or adjacent counties where wood exportation or movement has been prohibited by State or Federal Law. Absolutely no alcohol allowed in the campground. Youth Group Camping Area: At least one responsible adult must accompany each group of 15 minors. Special camping rate reductions apply to Illinois residents only. Group size and number of vehicles cannot exceed the established maximums. The maximum length of a camping stay from May 1 through October 31 is 14 nights in any 30 day period. Alcohol is not allowed in any areas of the campground. All pets must be on a leash. Pet owners are responsible for their animal's waste and must dispose of it properly. Pets must be kept under control at all times. All visitors are required to leave the park at or before 10:00PM. Groups of 25 or more are required to register in advance with the park office. Campground is closed at 10:00PM. It is possible to leave in the event of an emergency. Major holidays require a 2 night reservation. (Fri/Sat) Quiet hours are from 10:00PM - 7:00AM. No tents, trailers or RV's are allowed at the cabin sites. No pets or smoking are allowed in the cabins.
